Camera Setup Guide: How to Frame Your Device for 100% Accurate AI Form Tracking

Optimize your phone camera setup for AI pose estimation. Learn recommended distance (2–2.5 meters), camera height, lighting, and side angles.

1. Recommended Distance (2.0 to 2.5 Meters)

For 33-keypoint computer vision estimation, position your smartphone or laptop 2.0 to 2.5 meters away from your workout space. This distance allows the wide-angle camera lens to capture your full body from head to toe during full range-of-motion movements.

2. Camera Height & Tripod Angle (1.0 to 1.2 Meters)

Set your device at mid-torso or hip height (approximately 1.0 to 1.2 meters from the floor). Avoid steep top-down or floor-level angles, as extreme perspective distortion can obscure joint landmarks during deep squats or pushups.

3. Lighting & Background Contrast

Ensure your workout area is brightly illuminated with front or side lighting. Avoid strong backlighting (standing directly in front of a bright window), which silhouetting can hinder keypoint detection confidence.

4. Choosing Side vs 45-Degree Camera Angles

For exercises evaluated on depth or spine flexion (Squats, Pushups, Deadlifts, Planks), position your camera at a 90-degree side profile or a 45-degree front-three-quarter angle for optimal joint visibility.
